'Motown The Musical' looking for singers in Detroit to tour nationally
DETROIT, MI - You could play a Motown legend in a hit musical. "Motown
The Musical" is looking for singers in Detroit for the national touring
production.
The musical is holding open auditions inside the famous Studio A at
Hitsville U.S.A. The same spot where Motown's artists and groups
recorded their iconic music.
What the musical is looking for:
The musical is looking for both African American men and women, ages 20 -
40 with great singing voices. The musical is also looking for an
African-American boy, age 8 to 13, to play young Michael Jackson, Berry
Gordy and Stevie Wonder. No prior theatre experience is necessary.
Audition schedule:
Auditions are on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the Motown Museum at 2648 W.
Grand Blvd. in Detroit from 9am - 1pm and 2pm - 5pm. Sign-in begins at
8:30am and ends at 10:30am.
What to Bring:
- Sheet music for a song of choice from the Motown songbook that best features vocal range. An accompanist will be provided.
- A picture and resume including contact information (cell phone, email) stapled together. A recent picture will work if you don't have a formal headshot.
The national tour:
Those selected will begin rehearsals for the tour in August 2017 in New
York City. The show opens in Chicago on or about September 26, 2017. The
show will play in cities across the country. The tour closes in June
2018.
Salaries are negotiated for each performer based on the role. The
minimum salary for all cast members is $500/week. All performers are
provided with shared accommodations as well as per diem. Child
performers will travel with one parent or guardian. A tutor will be
provided. The guardian will be given per diem.

The show will be at Detroit's Fisher Theatre from April 18 - 30, 2017.
